Synod on Synodality

Synod on Synodality

On October 17, Cardinal Joseph Tobin opened in our Archdiocese the worldwide synod to focus on the life and mission of the Church as we move forward together. The theme for this synod is “For a Synodal Church: Communion, Participation and Mission.” The word “synod” literally means “walking” or “journeying together.” Pope Francis has called on each of us, as the People of God guided by the Holy Spirit, to help shape the future of the Church in the Third Millennium. The purpose of this synod is not simply to create more letters or encyclicals, rather it is an opportunity to dream about what our Church can become, what we are called to be as a Church of the poor, to bind up wounds, and learn from one another. Please consider joining fellow parishioners for Synod information and listening sessions. Each one of our voices matters; let your voice be heard.  For session schedules, Vatican resources, messages from Cardinal Tobin, our Synod leaders, and more, visit the Archdiocese of Newark’s Synod webpage at www.rcan.org/Synod2023 (English) or www.rcan.org/sinodo2023 (Spanish).
